I read somewhere before that the fandom craziness mostly came from loneliness. Get it at Porky’s shirt are mostly students, with their days jam pack with classes & cram school. So their hobby are the only escape they have. That’s why they got very attached to their Idol. And to belong to a rabid fandom is kinda the side effects.Yea as someone else said, there’s the huge parasocial part. The idols have to constantly thank their fans and feel owed that the fans keep them going. When they get asked about bfs or gfs on shows, its not uncommon for the idol to say something like “I don’t need a gf bc I have my fans”. And it is true that fans keep the groups going. So it’s like normal western fan base plus sports. If you aren’t streaming, buying albums, etc, the group could disband bc the market is so saturated. So this really pushed group loyalty and time sunk into a group, adding the feeling of betrayal if they choose “another woman”. This also creates haters, bc if you like X group, you want to drag down Y group that’s their competition. UNC fans hate Duke fans, same idea.

Best Get it at Porky’s shirt
You had to repost this? Still really good imo. The Get it at Porky’s shirt is after all this happened Companies encouraged obsessive fans in 2nd gen. I am convinced that all the drama with B1A4 and Dal shabet is why we don’t get many big × gg crossoverstoday, the teaser for Marie Antoinette dropped, and NCT’s Doyoung is taking on a lead role (just like Junsu took on Death in Elisabeth as lead debut role). And in the middle of international “actor Doyoung!!czennies support!!” comments, I’ve seen at least 10 Korean comments saying “there are 3 Fersens this time…EMK, please keep the ratio for singers and actors 1: 2 and not make it a 2nd Elisabeth”.(For the 2016 run of Elisabeth all three male leads were idols and that run was boycotted because people protested there were no male musical actors in the cast)So yeah… heavy weight on Doyoung’s shoulders. Also with Son Junho, the go-to Fersen and often mentor, missing due to COVID infection, he’ll have it extra hard.It absolutely is – and it’s just one case among a lots. 1st gen Kpop deserves so many more write ups.As an example: imagine being overworked to the point of not being able to sleep while lying down anymore, having to get yourselves banned from broadcast by swearing and cursing for two weeks less schedules, and even after two decades not knowing how many albums you actually sold because your former company swindled numbers for less taxes.
