Of course, observations are good, but not exactly solid data; and there are people who claim that Colour Vision 2020 T Shirt what’s on an animal’s mind and thus we can’t affirm that they dream. But this is because they have not seen this very convincing set of data from MIT researchers, published in the journal Neuron in 2001. The researchers trained rats to run on a circular track and then they would be rewarded with a food treat. While the rats ran, their brain activity was monitored and recorded, and they observed a distinctive pattern of neurons firing in the hippocampus (a brain region involved in memory). They also recorded their brain activity when they were sleeping, during the REM phase, numerous times. They observed the same pattern of neurons firing in the hippocampus as when they were running for a reward, in about half the REM episodes they recorded. The pattern was so close to the one during the runs, that the researchers could reconstruct where in the track the animal would be if awake, and also if it was running in the dream, or standing still. The speed of this “replay” was the same as during the waking times when the rats were on the track.

The same MIT lab went on to show that the content of the Colour Vision 2020 T Shirt of rats can be manipulated by certain stimuli. They trained rats to touch a pad with their noses and then played two different sounds. When one type of sound was played, they learned to go to the right for a food reward, and when the other sound was played, they had to go left for a food reward. They did all this while recording the firing pattern in the hippocampus. After the training sessions, the rats slept. The researchers could induce “replaying” a specific sequence (touch with the nose, go right, or go left) during dreaming if they played the first or the second sound during the non-REM part of the sleep cycle. These finding are the same as in humans, where the consolidation of memories is known to be enhanced by using cues (from learned tasks) during non-REM sleep.
